Is America Ready for a Woman President? is a display focusing on the historical record of women’s bids for the White House, the status of women’s leadership positions in United States and world governments, and a look at the opinions of the American people regarding a woman as President. The display is in the atrium of the UGL and will continue throughout March.
Join the Library System and the President’s Commission on the Status of Women for the annual reading of the President’s proclamation recognizing Women’s History Month March 3 at noon in the atrium of the David Adamany Undergraduate Library.
Immediately following the proclamation, at about 12:15, Maxine Berman, Director of Special Projects, Office of the Governor, will speak on women in politics inside the Bernath Auditorium. Maxine Berman serves as Director of Special Projects for Governor Jennifer Granholm. She is in charge of the Governor’s Centers for Regional Excellence program, a grant-funding body that supports collaborative projects among regions throughout the state. She is a member of the Michigan Suburbs Alliance and on the board of the Institute for Local Government at U of M-Dearborn. Ms. Berman is a former State Legislator, an Activist, and member of NOW, NAACP, LWV, National Council of Jewish Women, Detroit Women’s Forum, and the Gray Panthers.
A reception will follow in the Community Room on the 3rd floor of the UGL.

Nearly 70,000 new records were made available in the Wayne State Library System’s elibrary catalog (elibrary.wayne.edu) by creating access to Mbooks, the University of Michigan’s (U of M) digitized volumes that have been scanned through a partnership arrangement with Google.
These records are made available through the Open Archives protocol, an initiative that has its roots in the open access and institutional repository movements, the Library System was able to harvest the records into the elibrary catalog so that patrons may access the full digitized books from U of M. “For the patron, it’s seamless,†said Wayne State Systems Librarian, John Rutherford. “They search in our catalog and the link takes them directly to the content.â€
Inside of the catalog, the materials are classified as electronic books and can be searched like traditional books, or patrons may do an electronic book search to bring up all the records available. There is no time or page limits on perusing the material and they can be accessed at anytime.

Biological Abstracts contains bibliographical references with abstracts in English from life sciences research journals published worldwide. Biological Abstracts is now available through a different database vendor, ISI Web of Knowledge.Â
Biological Abstracts can be accessed by clicking on the “B” alphabetical list of databases on the Articles & Databases “B” page at:

OVID’s interface to MEDLINE, EMBASE and other databases has changed, providing a quicker basic search. To use most of OVID’s traditional features, click on a database and then the Advanced OVID Search tab. BIOSIS via OVID is no longer available but the database, now Biological Abstracts, shares the Web of Science/Knowledge site.
