AUGUST, 2010 Epocrates Corporation extended its educational programming by offering a free subscription to Epocrates® Essentials ($159 value) for U.S. medical students for another year. Students who register before August 31, 2010 will receive a FREE one-year subscription to the program good through August 2011.

If you have downloaded Essentials in the past, but find your program has expired just register again and synchronize your device.

If Essentials is currently running on your device, you can extend your subscription for the year after your registration.

NB: the Epocrates Essentials is made available to individual students solely through the Epocrates Corporation and the application expires a year after registration.

Point your device to http://m.lib.wayne.edu where you will find essential library information is available anytime anywhere. Libraries Mobile connects you to information about: Shiffman Mobile, a web page of health science resources for mobile devices; WSULS libraries hours; maps; the catalog; reference services with Ask-a-librarian and more.

To find the Shiffman Mobile page in WSU Libraries Mobile simply tap the Shiffman Mobile icon and you’re connected to a wealth of device-friendly clinical decision support tools, databases, e-books, and to PubMed for Handhelds.

In conjunction with CIT, the OneCard Service Center will be finalizing the
off-campus disaster recovery project as it relates to the OneCard system.
For this reason on AUGUST 17, 2010 the OneCard system will be off-line at
various times while we complete the project.

Users of the Library System will be unable to:

- Pay fines
- Print in the libraries

Campuswide, OneCard functions will not be available while the system is
offline:
-Card entry into the RFC
-Laundry, printing, cash machine deposits, on-line deposits, meal plans, food court purchases, any point ofsale transactions (EX: University Pharmacy, KINKOS etc.),
- Vending,
- transcripts from Records & Registration
- OneCard payment for placement tests
- Taking ID photos in the OneCard Service Center.

Door Access: No new records can be added but all existing patrons will be
able to pass through all doors.

Parking: Off-line but the parking gates will work and charges will be
applied to the patron’s account when the system is back on-line.

Copying: Off-line but copying functions will work and charges will be
applied to the patron’s account when the system is back on-line.

ICPSR is the world’s largest collection of digital social science data – www.icpsr.umich.edu. These data can be used for secondary research, instructional activities, and to write articles, papers or theses. Data cover topics including sociology, political science, economics, demography, education, child care, health care, crime, minority populations, aging, terrorism, substance abuse, mental health, public policy and international relations.

The Extended Study Center and the computers on the second floor of the UGL will be closed for New Student Orientation on the following dates from 8am-3pm . Additional computers for student use are available in the Purdy/Kresge and Science and Engineering Libraries.

Though students often visit the library to check out a book, on August 13, they’ll have a chance to check out all the services that the university libraries have to offer.

The second annual Library System Public Services Information Fair will take place on August 13 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. inside of the Kresge Library in the first floor study area. This year’s fair is open to all students, staff and faculty so they can learn how to take advantage of all of the libraries’ newest services that will make their experiences at the library easier and more effective in their studies and research. All users that visit the fair will also have a chance to enter a raffle to win Wayne State University Library System prizes.

The fair will be set up in eight stations that focus on a new feature that the libraries offer including our new re:Search tutorial, Course LibGuides, how to request materials, information about the Student Technology Studio and more. The stations’ presenters will give short presentations and allow users to ask questions.
