Join the Library System and your colleagues for “Copyright and Faculty Rights,” a two-part webinar that will help you to understand the challenges and solutions of applying copyright law in your classrooms, research and scholarly publications. The two sessions will take place on Friday, March 2, 2012 from 1:00 to 2:30 pm and on Friday, March 9, 2012 from 1:00 to 2:30 pm. Both will be offered inside the Kresge Auditorium at the Purdy/Kresge Library.

How copyright and fair use laws apply to teaching, research, and publications is not always clear. The increasing ease of copying and distributing digital materials raises the stakes even more. Faculty often do not have access to the resources and support they need to sort these challenges out. The webinar will cover topics such as:

Ownership of copyrighted works
Copyright in your own works and publications
Steps to protect and manage your copyright
Publication agreements
Open content requirements
Institutional requirements and open access
Fair use – using and being used (including Google Books)

Black History Month is in full swing at the Wayne State University Libraries! Stop by the UGL atrium to take in “Focus on Detroit,” an exhibit highlighting notable black women in Detroit. Visitors are encouraged to explore black Women in American History and Culture on a local level through photographs videos, and websites. Detroit has been and continues to be home to many exemplary, influential black women. The exhibit also includes external multimedia links that can be access by scanning the QR codes with your smartphone.

At the Purdy/Kresge Library, check out the Subject of the Month area, located just past the circulation desk on the Purdy side of the library. The display includes many books and materials on black history month that can perused or checked out.
