Wayne State University's health sciences library offers life and health sciences, biomedical and public health information services, collections, and access to resources for the Wayne State community and all Michigan residents and organizations needing assistance or consultation for research, education, clinical care and consumer health information. The Shiffman Library is committed to active health information outreach programs including Detroit Community AIDS Library, Michigan Go Local, and Urban Health Partners. THE SHIFFMAN MEDICAL LIBRARY BUILDING IS CLOSED:

Beginning August 17, 2007, the library's building will be undergoing a complete renovation for construction of Wayne State University's School of Medicine Richard J. Mazurek M.D. Education Commons.

We suggest that our valued library patrons and new colleagues contact us in advance of visiting one of our temporary service sites. Access to publications and many information services can be provided electronically or via telephone.

SHIFFMAN MEDICAL LIBRARY TEMPORARY SERVICE SITES:

This site contains reserve materials for School of Medicine graduate students (and others enrolled in these courses) and years 01 and 02 medical students. Faculty, students and staff working in buildings close to Scott Hall are encouraged to use this site for pick-up and drop-off of books and other library materials ordered through document delivery services (WILD or Get It (paging services) or Michigan Electronic Library (MEL)).

HOURS:
Monday through Friday: 8am - 8pm
Saturday & Sunday: Noon to 8pm

ADDITIONAL SERVICES: A librarian is normally on duty from 8am - 4pm. However, a librarian will be pleased to meet with you, your department or lab or with other groups at your site. Please call (313) 577-1094 or e-mail askmed@wayne.edu for prompt arrangements.

In addition to the library materials supporting the Applebaum College's students and faculty, the Appebaum LRC site contains reserve materials supporting the years 03 and 04 medical students, School of Medicine residents and other basic clinical texts and media supporting clinicians and trainees. Clinicians, students and staff in buildings close to the Applebaum Building (Mack and John R) are encouraged to use this site for pick-up and drop-off of books and other library materials ordered through document delivery services (WILD or Get It (paging services) or Michigan Electronic Library (MEL)).

ADDITIONAL SERVICES: A librarian, specializing in clinical information support services as well as services to community members with health information needs will normally be available at the Applebaum LRC from 10:30am - 6:00pm. The majority of the Shiffman Library's staff and its print collections will be located at this site along with a 20-seat computing facility. All Shiffman Library patrons are encouraged to use this site for pick-up and drop-off of books and other library materials ordered through document delivery services (WILD or Get It (paging services) or Michigan Electronic Library (MEL)). We welcome the university community and all persons seeking health or biomedical information services for educational or research needs. Size limitations prevent us from offering on-site general library or computer access unrelated to health information to those unaffiliated with the university or unaffiliated with the Detroit Medical Center.

Access for the Disabled

About Access for the Disabled: Access to the Rackham Building may be difficult for those with physical disabilities. The library staff will be pleased to work with our patrons to deliver books to a convenient location or use the U.S. Postal Service as desired. Journal articles can be delivered electronically. One of the many benefits of the Shiffman Library renovation is to appreciably improve access for all of our patrons.
