Guest Borrowing
Fee Based Borrowing Services:
For security purposes all guest patrons are required to show a State issued ID upon checkout. Failure to do so may result in immediate suspension of library privileges.
For an annual fee of $50 community members receive the following privileges:
- Check out a maximum of 10 books at one time. (DVDs, Videos, and all Reserves material will be available for in-building use ONLY.)
- 28 day loan, no renewal
- Request access to our Storage collections, and check out materials that circulate
- Access to electronic resources and databases from on campus
The following service will incur additional fees:
- Renting the Community Room, or Bernath Auditorium for educational or cultural events. (Restrictions apply)
To apply for a Library Card: At any circulation desk, provide the $50 payment, (Cash, or check accepted at all libraries. The Undergraduate Library, Medical Library and Purdy/Kresge Library also accept charge cards), and show a picture ID with name, and current address.
Standard Overdue fees apply. When overdue fines or replacement costs accrue to over $50, guest borrowing and other privileges are revoked until payment is received, and materials returned.
Guest borrowers are restricted from:
- Placing hold requests on books or other items
- Gaining access to our electronic resources and databases from home or off campus
- Gaining access to our group study rooms and computer labs
- Some categories of reserve items
Corporate Borrowers:
- Individuals doing research as a part of a corporation, business, or institution may acquire corporate guest borrowing privileges. An annual $250 fee is assessed and provides one library card, and up to 5 proxy cards for use by six individuals each of which carry a 10 item limit
Other *Free* Borrowing Options for non-WSU Patrons:
Community Members, Alumni, Students and Faculty:
- Michicard:
- WSU Libraries participates in Michicard. If you come from a participating institution, you will be extended guest borrowing privileges for one year. Privileges are extended annually provided your institution remains a member of Michicard. Borrowing privileges will be commensurate with WSU Guest Borrowers, fee not included.
- MeLCat:
- Users from participating libraries across Michigan can search for items available at WSU and request delivery to your own institution
- Also if your own institution participates in the “visiting patron” option, you can borrow items from WSU Libraries using your own institutions library card
WSU Alumni (non-Association)

- One renewal allowed.
- All other privileges same as Guest Borrowers (including annual fee).
WSU Alumni Association Members:
- Free borrowing privileges with proof of membership
- Check out a maximum of 10 books at one time
- 28 day loan, one renewal
- DVDs, videos, and all reserves material will be available for in-building use only
- Access to storage materials
Anthony Wayne Society Members
- Free borrowing services listed above.
- One renewal allowed.
- Proof of current membership is required.
WayneDirect Students
- Free borrowing services listed above.
- OneCard required.
Other Michigan based Students and Faculty:
- INFOPASS users:
- Apply for an INFOPASS at your home institution.
- Borrow up to 3 items for a 28 day loan.
- Michigan Research Libraries Triangle (MRLT) users:
- For Graduate students from MSU or U of M.
- Obtain status verification form from your own institution.
Faculty:
- Academic Research Libraries in OCLC Reciprocal Faculty Borrowing Program:
- Faculty from participating institutions will be extended guest borrowing privileges.
- Proof of current faculty affiliation required.
- Full-time faculty of colleges and universities:
- With the following ranks, are extended guest borrowing privileges:
- Instructor
- Assistant Professor
- Associate Professor
- Professor
- With the following ranks, are extended guest borrowing privileges:
