WSU Libraries
Copyright limitations for Electronic Reserves (ERes) at Wayne State University
Journal articles
- Copyright information (the copyright statement on the verso of the title page or colophon) must be attached to all articles submitted.
- If we own the full-text article in any of WSU Libraries unrestricted electronic resources we will add the URL directly from the database into ERes, as these resources are licensed, we do not need to obtain further copyright permissions.
- If we must scan the document and post to the Electronic Reserves system:
- WSU must obtain copyright permission prior to posting the requested documents.
- If permission is denied or the fee is over the library limit, we will not be able to post your request in the Electronic Reserves system. However, traditional course reserves will be in place as a backup.
- If the requesting faculty member is the author of the article, we must ask for confirmation that you are the rights holder. Being the author of a work does not necessarily grant the author copyrights over the work, as it depends upon whether the work was co-authored or if the rights were relinquished at publication.
Book Chapters
- Copyright information (the copyright statement on the verso of the title page or colophon) must be attached to all requests submitted.
- We can only post approximately 10% of one book or roughly one chapter of any book.
- The 10% or one chapter rule excludes introductions, preface, references, bibliography, and notes.
- WSULS must obtain copyright permission prior to posting the requested documents. We will pay up to $60.00 per request in royalties.
EBooks – ELibrary
- Ebooks are treated the same as the online full-text journal articles.
- If we own the full-text ebook in any of WSU Libraries unrestricted electronic resources we will add the URL directly from the database into ERes, as these resources are licensed, we do not need to obtain further copyright permissions.
