Deborah H. Charbonneau is the Coordinator for Reference and Research Services at the Vera P. Shiffman Medical Library at Wayne State University. She also serves as Principal Investigator for the Urban Health Partners program, a public health outreach project funded by the National Library of Medicine/National Institutes of Health. She facilitates partnerships between the library and community agencies and has also developed training programs and online products to provide information to diverse populations. Her research has been funded by various government organizations and encompasses investigations into how information technologies and tools can be effective in training and enhancing the knowledge and skills of health providers serving vulnerable populations, including non-English speakers. She received her M.A. in library science from the University of Pittsburgh and is part-time faculty in the Wayne State University School of Library and Information Science. She is the recipient of the Medical Informatics Fellowship from the National Library of Medicine and completed training at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. In addition, she received a scholarship from the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries to attend the ACRL / Harvard Leadership Institute. Her publications have appeared in the Journal of the Medical Library Association, Journal of Consumer Health on the Internet, and the journal Evidence Based Library and Information Practice. In 2008, she edited the book Global Information Inequalities: Bridging the Information Gap published by Chandos Publishing Limited. Deborah is currently a Ph.D. candidate in the Sociology Program at Wayne State University.
