Overview

Welcome to the WSULS home for information, initiatives, and resources on scholarly communication.

Over the last decade, the system of scholarly communication has been undergoing significant changes, and the Library System has been in the center of these changes. Most importantly, libraries and institutions across the world have found that the current model of scholarly communication is not sustainable. This is because libraries and their parent institutions are unable to support the increasing volume and rising costs of scholarly resources.

As a result, libraries have no choice but to cancel some journal subscriptions and reduce book purchases. The causes of this are many and complex, and as such so are the possible solutions. Given this, the Libraries at WSU have taken several steps ensure that our clients continue to have access to the resources they need, but also that they are educated and aware of the crisis in scholarly communication.
