Fridays@Shiffman Learning Cafe Series

Community Health Information Services Learning Opportunities

 

The Shiffman Medical Library offers a variety of educational programs for Wayne State University health sciences faculty, students and staff. The library also offers workshops and customized training programs for members of the community. The Shiffman Library librarians are also pleased to assist individuals in learning about health sciences information resources that can be useful in research, papers, presentations, instruction and clinical care. Assistance is available at our Reference Desk and appointments are encouraged for one-to-one consultation.

Information management instruction, demonstrations, and workshops are available on many topics that can be customized for small or large groups. These topics include, but are not limited to:

  • MEDLINE via OVID or PubMed
  • The variety of biomedical databases
  • File management (e.g., EndNote)
  • Finding journals
  • Custom programs for research or administrative assistants
  • Finding funding information
  • Effectively searching the Internet for health sciences information
  • Custom programs about critical health matters including HIV/AIDS

Community Health Information Services Learning Opportunities
CHIS offers several different ways for the community and students to learn more about accessing health information and related research skills.

Health Resources on the Internet
CHIS offers the following Internet classes; Finding High Quality Health Information on the Internet, and DCAL, Detroit Community AIDS Library.

Small Group Workshops
Workshops customized to the needs of a small group can be prepared to be held at your site or at the Shiffman Medical Library.

One to One Training
One to one training for specific health information needs; databases; or research skills can be arranged by contacting the CHIS.
