OVERVIEW

eMedicine® is a database of thousands of peer-reviewed disease specific articles created by physician authors and editors around the country. Each article has 4 levels of physician peer-review plus evaluation by a Pharm.D. It also contains medical tools and calculators as well as clinical image case, radiography and ECGs.

eMedicine® is available to WSU affiliates. To access eMedicine® on your PDA, you need to:

  • Use your WSU AccessID and password for remote access/downloading
  • Download a FREE MobiPocket Reader
  • Save the article(s) to your computer
  • Send the file(s) to your PDA using Mobipocket Reader
  • Tap the file and read it

 

AUTHENTICATION

Downloading Emedicine remotely from home requires that you authenticate with your WSU Access ID (e.g. aa1234) and password. If you require assistance on locating your AccessID and password, please click here (http://computing.wayne.edu/accessid/aboutaccessid.php) for instructions provided by the WSU C&IT department.

 

DOWNLOAD INSTRUCTIONS

If you have downloaded Mobipocket Reader, go to step 3

Step 1: Click the link below to downlaod FREE Mobipocket Reader setup program (3.22 MB) to your desktop computer.

Step 2: Make sure that your PDA is connected to your PC. Click the "mobireadersetup.msi" to install Mobipocket Reader to your desktop computer and PDA.

Step 3: Select and save the topic(s) to your computer

  • Go to Emedicine web site
  • Click the link "PDA and Wireless" on the left column
  • There are hundreds of peer-reviewed articles available for downloading. Click interesting topic link(s) and save the article(s) to your computer.

Step 4: Launch Mobipocket Reader program (reader.exe) in your computer and send the file(s) to your PDA.

  • Clicking "File" on the menu bar of Mobipocket Reader. Select "open" to open the file saved in the computer in Mobipocket Reader
  • Click "My Library" on the left colume
  • Select the file you like to read within PDA and Click "Send to Handheld"
  • The file(s) you selected will be sent to your PDA Mobipocket Reader.

Step 5: Launch your Mobipocket Reader in your PDA and tap topics listed under "library" and read them.
