InfoRetriever®

OVERVIEW

InfoRetriever, a part of the InfoPOEMS system, is a search engine that lets you perform simultaneous keyword searches of the following databases: full collection of POEMs, Cochrane Database abstracts, evidence-based guideline summaries, decision support calculators , diagnostic test calculators, H&PE calculators, the complete 5 Minute Clinical Consult (5MCC) and ICD-9 lookup tool.

InfoPOEMs is available to WSU affiliates. To access databases listed above on your PDA, you need to:

  • Use your WSU AccessID and password for remote access/downloading
  • Download and install InfoRetriever Files
  • Register your device for first time user.

To download and access the full version of 5MCC for PDA, you need to download the FULL VERSION of InfoRetriever files. You need to have 55 MB of free storage space to install the program (less may be required when installing to Internal Memory). After installation, InfoRetriever® will occupy approximately 45 MB of memory. The instructions for downloading are provided below.

 

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

 

AUTHENTICATION

Downloading InfoRetriever remotely from home requires that you authenticate with your WSU Access ID (e.g. aa1234) and password. If you require assistance on locating your AccessID and password, please click here (http://computing.wayne.edu/accessid/aboutaccessid.php) for instructions provided by the WSU C&IT department.

 

DOWNLOAD INSTRUCTIONS

You will need to register your device with InfoPoems within 30 days of download.

Preliminaries: Uninstall InfoRetriever from your PDA if you installed a previous release of Inforetriever. Write down your current license code listed under 'File' -> 'Register' before removing the program.

Uninstall InfoRetriever

  • Fully Exit InfoRetriever® if it is running ( File -> Exit )
  • Select Start -> Settings -> System and tap on Remove programs .
  • Select the InfoRetriever® program and tap Remove.

Step 1 : Connect your handheld and make sure that a connection to your desktop computer has been established with the current version of ActiveSync or HotSync.

Step 2: Download InfoRetriever installation file to your desktop computer.
Note: if you access InfoRetriever website from home, you will get a screen which asks you to enter a user name and password. Please enter your WSU AccessID and password, and then click the "Submit" button.

Step 3: Run the installer to install InfoRetriever to your PDA. Read license agreement, then click 'I Agree' and use the default installation setting unless you have a reason to change. Next you need to select where to install InfoRetriever (i.e. on device or SD card). On the Windows PC desktop, you will be asked "Install InfoPOEMs Inforetriever using the system default directory?". If you wish to install InfoRetriever to your device's internal memory, select Yes . If you wish to install InfoRetriever to your device's external memory (e.g. SD card), select No. The system will then allow you to select the installation destination.

Step 3a:
Choose the user for installation
Step 3b: Perform a Hotsync operation
Step 3c: Initialize InfoRetriever
Step 3d: Perform a Hotsync

Step 4: Run InfoRetriever by taping InfoRetriever listed on your program screen.

Step 5: Register your InfoRetriever within 30 days after installation.

For first Time user, you need to:

  1. Obtain your InfoRetriever SerialID by launching InfoRetriever on your handheld device and selecting File -> Register from the application menu. Write down the SerialID listed in the box.
  2. Obtain the License code by visiting the Register InfoRetriever page and following the instructions provided (i.e. entering your email address, name, PDA platform, and serialID). Then the InfoRetriever® License Code will be sent to you shortly via email.
  3. Enter a License code into InfoRetriever by selecting File -> Register from the application menu. Once you have entered the license code, tap Set License and then "OK" on the pop up box. Tap the Close box.

For users who reinstall the Inforetriever, you need to select File -> Register from within InfoRetriever and make sure that your SerialID and License code are listed in the device. If not, enter the license code you write down before uninstallation or following the instructions above to regenerate a License code.
